Powahay District Weather Cancellation Policy
The District Key 3 consulting with District Staffing of an event will best determine cancel-lation or a delay start of a District Activity on the following:
1. Weather Alerts.
2. Driving conditions.
3. Availability of District Staffing.
4. Ability to run program.
5. Weather related and other conditions at the location.

Procedures:

  • Cancellation or delay of an event announced by 12 noon Friday unless circumstances require an earlier cancellation.
  • Based on when we receive Weather Alerts, we will do a prior to Friday weather watch alert email.
  • Once the National Weather Service changes a storm from a “Watch” to a “Warning” we will err on the side of caution and cancel.
  • A Weather Watch alerts that conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather.
  • A Weather Warning means that severe weather is occurring, imminent, or likely in the location indicated and is a threat to life and property. People in the warning area need to take action immediately.
  • Weather Watches and Warnings are issued by the National Weather Service.
  • If we move forward with a district activity under potential travel advisory conditions, Unit Leadership is responsible to determine safe driving conditions for their unit and if their Scouts are prepared to meet the challenges of the pending weather.

This policy has been endorsed by Powahay’s District Chairman, District Commissioner, Council Area Staff, District Committee and Commissioner Staff.
